Freedom Isn't Free

In his song "American Soldier," Toby Keith sings "I will always do my duty, no matter what the price.  I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice.  Oh, and I don't wanna die for you, but if dyin's asked of me I'll bear that cross with honor 'cause freedom don't come free."

Those lyrics just take my breath away - and reduce me to tears every time.  I can't help it when I think about all the men and women who have served our country over the years, fighting for independence, for justice and for freedom.

For my freedom.  Willingly.

It's overwhelming to think of the sacrifices our military makes each and every day for us. Today we pause to honor those men and women.  We'll have ceremonies at city hall and parades down Main Street to try to express our thanks and admiration, but somehow it just doesn't seem to be enough.  Not for everything they've done - and continue to do - for us.  We owe them our utmost respect, admiration and gratitude.  This weekend I made a donation to Paws for Purple Hearts as a small way of expressing my thanks and I encourage you to donate to your favorite charity that benefits veterans.

Please join with me and Office Express as we salute our military and their families.

Real heroes don't wear capes - they wear dog tags.

God bless you all.
