Local Spotlight - No More Homeless Pets

This is a subject that is close to my heart and I want to share it with you.  Even if your company is not in the Detroit area, you can still help in your own community by organizing a similar project.

Jared Martin, an Eagle Scout candidate from Boy Scout Troop 1707 in Troy is hosting a pet adoption event, called No More Homeless Pets, this Saturday, April 18th, at the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan.  He is also collecting donations (both monetary and goods) for the shelter.

When asked why he chose this as his Eagle service project, Jared said, " I decided on this project because I don’t want to see animals in cages; I want to see them in homes.  I like seeing pets being happy and joyful and full of energy - not cooped up in cages because they have nowhere else to go.   One of the reasons I chose AWS is that it is a no-kill shelter and that is important to me.  Currently, they have more than 100 pets that they have to take care of in their facility, and more in foster homes.  One of the days I was in the AWS building waiting to talk with them, there was a woman who was surrendering her dog, and I could see the tears on her face from 10 feet away.  I don’t know why she couldn’t keep it any longer, but watching her and seeing her tears and her emotions as she was saying goodbye was heartbreaking.    I have always loved animals and it saddens me to see stories about abandoned or abused animals and to know that there are so many homeless animals.   I want to find as many forever homes for these pets as humanly possible. "

If you can open your heart and home to a new pet, please stop by the shelter this Saturday and share your love with one of the beautiful dogs or cats they have.  AWS is also looking for more foster homes.  And if you can't adopt or foster, please consider donating.  Scouts will be on site to show you the animals and to gather your donations.  Here is a list of some of the items on AWS's want list:
