Thought for the Day
Priorities..............We all have to set priorities in our lives.
- What is the most urgent project you have to do at work?
- Which bill should you pay first?
- Which home improvement project should you do first?
There are too many things to do each day and seemingly not enough time to do them all. I was driving myself crazy at home trying to keep my house clean with 2 adults, a child and pets. Long-haired dogs. That shed. A lot.
And gardening - tons of flower beds that need planting and weeding....and shrubs that need trimming......and rose bushes that need to be deadheaded. (Is that a word?)
And working full time. So many tasks, meetings, projects......
It was all quite overwhelming at times. One day, when I was complaining about the yard work, a friend of mine said to me, "Are you raising a child or a lawn?" That really hit home and made me think about my priorities. Then I came across a poem that put things into perspective for me even more. I'd like to share that poem with you now - you may have seen it before. It's titled One Hundred Years from Now.
Suddenly the gardening and the vacuuming didn't seem all that important anymore. Now I'm not suggesting that you should ignore your deadlines and projects - especially at work. I'm just saying that we all need to take a step back and de-stress. Figure out what is really most important in our lives. For me, it's my family. I keep a plaque with this poem on it in my den and look at it regularly to remind me. For you, it may be your career. Just step back and look at it with fresh eyes and make sure you have your priorities straight.
