My son is an Eagle Scout.  He started in Scouts in first grade and over the years I attended literally hundreds of troop meetings and helped him work on lots of different skills for his rank advancement.  Scouting teaches boys many things, such as survival skills.  Let's see how many outdoorsy readers we have.  Today's topic is:

It's been a little over two years since we started this blog and we hope that you have found it useful, informative, witty and, at times, fun.  I spend a lot of time trying to come up with interesting topics and things that I can share with you that will be interesting and timely.

So how am I doing?  Is there something you'd like to know about that I haven't discussed? When I was growing up, one of my favorite shows to watch on the weekend was ABC's Wide World of Sports.  Nowadays, I mostly watch football with my better half.  Of course, I'm telling you this because it leads me to today's topic:

I learned the value of an external hard drive quickly when Windows 10 trashed my home computer.  <sigh>  That was not a fun time.  I'm back on Windows 7 Professional and that's where I'm staying until this computer dies.

If you haven't already purchased your 2017 calendars and planners, now is the time to do so!  Many people wait until the new year and then have a difficult time finding the one they like - or even one that's close to what they want.

I always tell clients that the calendar industry works the same way the clothing industry does - you go into a store in July looking for a new bathing suit and all they have in stock are winter things (coats, sweaters, etc.).  Go into a store in January looking for a pair of winter boots and you will find bathing suits.   The calendar industry releases the next year's items in late spring of the previous year, so the 2017's have been on the shelves since about June.  By the time January 2017 rolls around, they're just about sold out.

Twice each year we remember our armed forces with special holidays.  Cities hold parades and ceremonies at city hall and/or in cemeteries.  Today is one of those days - today is Veteran's Day.  This year is a little different though, because we just had a presidential election and that election has consumed the American people's thoughts and actions for many months.

My fear is that Veteran's Day will be overshadowed by the election and its aftermath.  Let us not forget to celebrate and remember the service men and women who fought to make this country great and to give us the opportunity to elect our president.  Please join with me and take a moment to reflect on the blessings we enjoy because of the bravery and sacrifices of our military.
